So, what goes into a professional medical residency headshot?
- The expression is very important for you to show the confidence, intelligence, and approach ability in your photo. The most programs are searching for someone who can fit in well with their team (i.e. friendly), and looks like they know what they’re doing. It’s amazing how much information picture delivers. Make sure your expression says what you want it to say!
- Lighting and Backdrop. Do you know that you will have a chance 14 times more likely to be picked for an interview with a professional headshot? Submitting the headshot without professional lighting and backdrop potentially can seriously hurt your chances of landing your dream residency program. A professional headshot at its simplest level shows you care enough to invest in a professional portrait. Important: I strongly recommend that your residency portrait is taken on a light gray or white background. Why? Because it stands out more and is statistically more likely to be clicked on.
- Correct format and specifications. Please make sure your photo conforms to ERAS specifications. As of September 2016, the correct format is 2.5″ x 3.5″ at 150 dpi, with a maximum file size of less than 100 KB. Trying to upload anything in a different format can cause issues and they might not accept your application. You can find our prices on this or on the following page.
